AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT (ARRA)

 

Federal site www.recovery.gov  This website shows how the money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is being distributed and managed. Federal Agencies will be reporting distribution data on a weekly and monthly basis, which will be reported here, reflected in charts, graphs, and detailed state maps.

 

 

New Jersey site www.nj.gov/recovery  The ARRA provides a host of benefits for New Jerseyans - ranging from tax changes to safer bridges and roads to greater access to social safety net programs. Please explore this site to learn more about the specific programs and services that are now available as a result of the ARRA.

BuildingSkills4Work offers free online training and skill building using interactive lessons in real work situations. 

 

 

Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI)- The mission of the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired is to promote and provide services in the areas of education, employment, independence and eye health through informed choice and partnership with persons who are blind or visually impaired, their families and the community.

 

 

Garden State Employment & Training Association (GSETA) -GSETA is a statewide professional organization for the directors and administrators of New Jersey's Service Delivery Areas, Workforce Investment Boards and other locally delivered employment and training initiatives.

 

GED and Adult Education Services - includes locations throughout the State that offer ABE -  Classes In Adult Basic Education, ESL - English As A Second Language,  EL/CIVICS - English Literacy and Civics Education,  GED - General Educational Development Test Preparation,  GED Testing Centers - New Jersey Department of Education Official New Jersey GEDŽ Testing Centers,  Adult High Schools - Your local school system may offer Adult High School classes to help you earn your diploma, and Workforce Learning Links - The Workforce Learning Links provide adult learners instruction in reading, writing, and math; communication; financial literacy; job search; and employability and life skills and are available at One-Stop Career Centers and community-based sites throughout the state.

 

 

The John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development, Edward J. Bloustein School of Policy and Public Planning, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is a research and policy organization devoted to transforming the workforce development system at the local, state, and federal levels. The Center provides an independent source of analysis for reform and innovation in policy-making and employs cutting-edge research and evaluation projects to identify best practices in workforce development and employment and workplace policy. The Heldrich Center is dedicated to educating business, policymakers, union leaders, academia, the media, and the public about the workforce development system and its role in our changing economy and workplaces.

National Work Readiness Credential (WRC) - The WRC is a nationally validated, portable, computer-based assessment that measures readiness for entry-level jobs. The WRC is based on a set of employer-defined cross-industry foundational skills required for success in employment.

New Jersey Training Opportunities - the New Jersey Eligible Training Provider List and Training Provider Consumer Report Card - This guide to training and education programs is a product of  the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and the State Employment and Training Commission.  This website lists schools and organizations that provide occupational education and job training opportunities and includes information on the various programs offered by each training provider,  the location and length of training, the costs and any special services that may be offered.

 

NJ NextStop - This website, designed for students, parents and teachers, allows you to match your skills and interests with occupations that will be highly marketable when you are ready to enter the workforce. It lists and describes the various occupations within an expanding industry and provides statistical overviews that identify weekly earnings and projected growth within the industry.

 

NJ PLACE - NJ Pathways Leading Apprentices to a College Education recognizes apprenticeship training programs as a pathway to college.


One-Stop Career Centers
- Located throughout New Jersey, One-Stop Career Centers offer services (free of charge) to help you develop the skills needed to succeed in a 21st century work environment. The One-Stop Career Center locations are posted on the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s website.

 

Vocational, Technical, Career and Innovative Programs - Want to know more about what’s really involved in training for a specific job? Looking for help in preparing for a career? Need assistance in locating resources to help you explore different types of industries and occupations? Or perhaps you need to know what opportunities are available in your chosen profession? The New Jersey Department of Education’s Office of Vocational-Technical, Career and Adult Programs website can help.

 

Workforce New Jersey Public Information Network (WNJPIN) - This web site provides information for job seekers and employers. There is information on career exploration as well as other resources for employment and training information.

America's Literacy Directory (ALD) - A national database of literacy programs is available via the Worldwide Web and the Institute for Literacy's toll-free number. ALD connects employers, learners, volunteers, social service providers to current information about literacy program in all 50 states and U.S. territories.


CareerOneStop - This site, sponsored by the US Department of Labor has career information and tools to help job seekers, students, businesses and career professionals.

 

CareerVoyages - The U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration CareerVoyages site is filled with labor market information, career resources and industry driven content aimed at 15-25 year olds, their parents, career advisors and career changers.  What makes Career Voyages such a valuable resource is its focus on the country’s high growth industries and in-demand occupations. 

 

 

National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) - NAWB represents business-led Workforce Boards that plan and oversee state and local workforce development and job training programs. Our members are volunteers working in their communities to create a more highly skilled workforce. Workforce Boards consist of public and private sector members who are leading the way in workforce development so that America can remain competitive in the global marketplace. The skills of the workforce provide the basis for all economic growth and development. Workforce Boards are local employer-led partnerships charged with developing a workforce development system from disparate education, job training, and employment programs in each local community.

 

National Governors Association (NGA) - This web site provides a collective voice of the nation's governors and one of Washington, D.C.'s, most respected public policy organizations. NGA provides governors and their senior staff members with services that range from representing states on Capitol Hill and before the Administration on key federal issues to developing policy reports on innovative state programs and hosting networking seminars for state government executive branch officials. The NGA Center for Best Practices focuses on state innovations and best practices on issues that range from education and health to technology, welfare reform, and the environment. NGA also provides management and technical assistance to both new and incumbent governors.

 

National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) - This institute is an independent federal organization leading the national effort toward a fully literate nation in the 21st century. NIFL's mission is to ensure that the highest quality of literacy services is available to adults. The Institute serves as a focal point for public and private activities that support the development of high quality regional, state, and national literacy services.
